The Hottest Comedy Show Philly Has to Offer

By Mya K. Douglas

Lawrence Killebrew would’ve never imagined that he would be the host of one of Philadelphia’s top comedy shows – a show that has even won the heart of Philadelphia’s very own Kevin Hart, a past comedian guest. Tickle Me Tuesday was born August 7th, 2007 and every second Tuesday of the month since then, the Laff House has become the real house of laughs for all who attend.

Killebrew, also known as Mr. Tuesday to his fans, never disappoints, whether he is on stage or is the brain-work behind the guest line up, he always makes sure people leave feeling 100% better than when they arrived. “Being a comedian is an outlet,” says Killebrew. “Tickle Me Tuesday is a night to make people forget about what’s going on. A way for people to escape the realities of everyday life.”

For Killebrew, it’s his own personal escape as well. He gives his heart when performing, and knowing that people will remember him for being the one to make them happy is profit enough for him. The show has been running for a little over two years now and ticket sales continue to pump. For $10-15 a ticket, guests are getting more than what they have paid for. “I don’t make people feel as though they are being cheated. People’s reaction is more of an appreciation that they paid $10 for one of my shows and got more than they paid for.” In addition to the affordable ticket price, Tickle Me Tuesday’s guests enjoy discounted parking at the lot on 2nd and Lombard.

Lawrence believes that anything he does has to have quality for people to want to support it. “Anybody can make it during a recession or a tough time in the economy,” says Killebrew “as long as what they are producing has quality. You have to be able to make people want to support you, even when they don’t have the money to spend.”

Killebrew has been able to travel to over sixty cities throughout the United States and shows promise to keep it moving. Comedy is about more than laughs, fun and games for this rising comic. “It’s about people that have never met me or that I may never get to meet to understand who I am.”
