Play Ball for Ticket Specials To Hot New York Games

By Jane Lee Bock

If it ever actually stops raining in New York, one of the really fun places to be will be a baseball game. With 13 out of 16 days this month being rainy ones, it stands to reason that both the Yankees and the Mets are making it a little easier to get reasonably priced tickets. If you can’t get someone with a season pass to give you one of their tickets, these offers just might have you yelling Play Ball!

TravelZoo sent out a special email last week for a really good offer for tickets to see the New York Yankees play the Washington Nationals June 16-18, announcing tickets for those games would start at a season low of just $11 each (cheapest ticket is regularly $14). Ticketsnow.com was the sign up site and they even waived their standard shipping fee. Grandstand seats went for $11 and field level seats, regularly $95, sold for a mere $39.

The Yankees own website regularly offers special deals including one where, for select games, tickets in certain areas of the Terrace and Grandstand levels, and the bleachers were only $5.

Monday through Thursday this September, families can enjoy discount tickets in select areas of the Grandstand Level, there are packages of tickets for small groups that also include snack items, and there’s even an “unused” ticket credit available. Check out Yankees.com to see all these specials. Who needs scalpers now?

Not to be outdone, the Mets have lots of special offers going on too. There is a ticket bid special going on right now on their website for entry to the inaugural Subway Series at Citi Field June 26 – June 28, and other special promotion days with lots of giveaways.

Of course seeing the pros at the spanking new stadiums might be a thrill, but don’t forget that New York is host to a minor league team too, and getting there up close and personal is easy and cheap. The Long Island Ducks (stadium in Islip) have a full schedule of great up-and-coming stars to start following and since the stadium is small, every seat has a great view. Plus, parking there is free, the tickets cheap, and I can personally attest to the tastiness of the hot dogs and beers.
